Come By Plane, Train, Bus or Car

But, Do Come – You Are Most Welcome!

There are many choices to get to New Haven for the AUSS 2012 Convention.

By Train or Scheduled Bus

Beautiful Union Station services Amtrak, MetroNorth (a commuter line that goes into Grand Central Station in New York City), and Greyhound bus.  Also known as New Haven Railroad Station, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  From there, you may take the free downtown shuttle bus (http://www.cttransit.com/RoutesSchedules/UnionStation.asp) to the New Haven Green, or take a taxi directly to the hotel door.

Greyhound Bus (www.greyhound.com) price, round-trip, and travel time:

From Chicago: $246 pp (advance purchase), and takes 23 1/2 hours, with 1 transfer.

From Minneapolis: $284 pp (advance purchase), and takes 1D 8H, 21M, with 2 transfers.

Another train option:

Amtrak to New York City, spend some time sightseeing, then take the MetroNorth commuter train (http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm) to New Haven.

From Chicago to NYC via Amtrak $97 takes 20H, with direct service.

MetroNorth to New Haven is between $9.75 and $19.50 one-way, depending on if you’re traveling during peak or off-peak times, and if a senior citizen.  For round-trip, price is approximately doubled.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you choose this option, be aware that there are two train stations in New York City: Grand Central (for MetroNorth) and Penn Station (for Amtrak).

By Plane

By plane, you have a number of choices.  By far, the most convenient is Tweed New Haven Airport (www.flytweed.com).  It is a small, easy to navigate airport, serviced by United/US Airways (partner airlines).  Car rentals available at the airport are Avis, Budget, and Hertz.  There is infrequent bus service to downtown.  You must call after your flight arrives to get the next available time (203-624-0151).  You may also travel by taxi (only 4˝ miles from the airport).  See www.flytweed.com/ground-transportation.html for more detail.
