PROPOSED ITINERARY
A.U.S.S. Concert Tour to Sweden

July, 2009


July 6 Depart with Scandinavian Airlines from gateway cities Seattle, Chicago, Washington (Dulles) and Newark, with non stop service to Copenhagen.

July 7 Upon arrival in Copenhagen, our motor coaches will meet us at the airport for a three hour transfer to the city of Borgholm on the Island of Öland for dinner and overnight accommodation at the ocean front Strand Hotel.

July 8 Morning rehearsal with afternoon walking tour of the quaint town known to be one of Sweden’s most popular summer destinations and summer home of the Royal Family. Dinner and overnight Strand Hotel.

July 9 Morning sightseeing. Öland has a centuries old history and was an important trading destination for the sailing vessels of the Hanseatic League era. We return to the hotel for an afternoon rehearsal. Dinner and overnight accommodation at the Strand Hotel. There is a good chance for a warm-up concert as we have many friends in Borgholm, the capital city and sister city of Rockford, Illinois.

July 10 Depart from the Island crossing the bridge to the mainland with a visit to Kalmar Castle and a stop in Karlskrona, before arriving in Olofström for a concert and overnight accommodation at First Hotel Olofström.

July 11 After breakfast today we continue to Malmö, Sweden’s third largest city. A concert is planned in the evening with overnight accommodation at Scandic Hotel Kramer.

July 12 Driving northward, we will make a stop in Lund and visit Lund Cathedral and University before continuing to Växjö, with accommodation. Then we will experience a hyttsill dinner where we will perform and enjoy an evening of glass blowing and music.

July 13 After breakfast, a visit to the Emigrant Institute before continuing northward to Eksjö, one of Sweden’s oldest cities, for dinner and overnight accommodation and an evening concert.

July 14 From Eksjö our tour continues via Jönköping, with a stop in Gränna famous for “Polka Grisar” candy and Vadstena the home of the 14th Century convent before continuing to Stockholm where we will board the M/S Birger Jarl for a short cruise to the Island of Åland and the city of Mariehamn. The cruise departs at 5:00 P.M. and arrives shortly after mid night.

July 15 We can remain in our cabins and have breakfast before debarking where a sightseeing coach will take us on a sightseeing tour of Mariehamn before checking into our hotel. We are planning an evening concert.

July 16 After breakfast at the hotel, we reboard the M/S Birger Jarl for departure at 8:15 a.m. arriving in Stockholm at 3:15 p.m., where a transfer coach awaits to bring us to our hotel for overnight accommodation.

July 17 In Stockholm, free for independent activities with overnight accommodation and a farewell dinner.

July 18 Transfer to Arland airport for return flights.


You may with to extend your stay with a visit to the Norwegian Fjords.
