A brief history of the North Star Singers and Northern Lights Singers
The North Star Singers
Founded in 1933, North Star joined the
American Union of Swedish Singers in 1935.
We participate in A.U.S.S. singing festivals and conventions
in major cities throughout the country.
Some highlights from the past have been: recording an album of
Swedish songs at the invitation of RCA Victor, singing at a
special festival in the General Assembly Hall of the
United Nations for an audience of over 2000 staff members, and
performing with other A.U.S.S. singers at Fisher Hall in
New York City in the presence of King Carl Gustaf of Sweden
during the United States Bicentennial celebration.
The Northern Light Singers
Founded in 1990, the Northern Lights joined the
American Union of Swedish Singers
in 1992.
We sing for local Scandinavian organizations and other groups
interested in Swedish songs, such as the Swedish Welfare
Association, Wednesday Afternoon Music Club and World Fest
in Stamford, CT. We have participated in all A.U.S.S. singing
festivals and conventions throughout the country.
In July, 2002,
our two choruses hosted the Eastern Division convention of the
American Union of Swedish Singers. To read about it, click
