Eastern Division Fall Weekend

The Nordic Harmoni chorus hosted the annual Eastern Division Fall Weekend September 28- 30 in Londonderry, Vermont. More than forty singers, plus spouses and friends, descended on the Inn on Magic Mountain, our weekend headquarters, throughout the day on Friday. Nordic Harmoni members prepared a delicious sandwich supper buffet, highlighted by pulled pork. In the evening we drove into Londonderry center to the Second Congregational Church for a rehearsal of the weekend music. Back at the Inn, we had a chance to catch up with each other and get to know our Nordic Harmoni hosts.

On Saturday morning, we were off to the nearby Peru Fair. After a rehearsal in the local church, which was open to the public, we had a chance to enjoy the fair, with its special New England charm. At noon, we gave a short performance in the church which everyone seemed to enjoy. The rest of the afternoon, we were free to sightsee, shop in nearby Manchester and Weston, or just enjoy the

crisp late-September day. Saturday evening, we performed at the Second Congregational Fall Harmony in the North Church to an appreciative audience. Highlights of the concert were Nordic Harmoni, singing “The Way Old Friends Do” and Ellen and Ken Svengalis, who sang the humorous “Hulda’s Good Svedish Meatballs.” Our directors were Ernie Gunn and Mary Grace Brustrom, and Fred Lucies, director of Nordic Harmoni. Ken Olson was our accompanist.

After the program, we had more time back at the Inn to relax and chat and do some impromptu singing. Sunday morning found us back at the Congregational Church to sing for their morning worship service. We did a “sermon in song”, plus the offertory and closing song.

A wonderful Sunday Brunch was held at the beautiful home of Joel and Gale Kuhlberg. The weather was perfect for enjoying the back yard.

For those staying over until Monday, Vin and Carol Johnson had a bonfire get together at their place. As the evening chill set in, we got closer and closer to the fire. But, we had a lot of fun singing and roasting marshmallows.

All in all, it was a great weekend. Our hosts were warm and accommodating and we look forward to seeing them, again, in Portland.
