Procedures and Timing for the Annual Scholarship Campaign

The annual campaign to select the recipients of the AUSS CHF Scholarship (s) will begin on September 1st and end on December 1st for the school year starting in late August/early September of that year. Between December 1st and December 15th, our Scholarship Committee will make the decision to award the scholarship (s) to the most deserving applicants. The Scholarship Committee will then send a copy of the application (s) to the Scholarship Chairperson. The Scholarship Chairperson will prepare a letter (s) to the recipient and a letter (s) to the recipients’ school. The letter (s) to the school will be sent with a check request (s) to the Treasurer of the AUSS CHF. The Treasurer will write the check (s) and enclose same in the letter (s) to the school (s) in a preaddressed envelope (s). Copies of the letters will be sent to the Treasurer as documentation for the outgoing checks. The checks will be mailed, by the Treasurer, by the last week of January in the following year.

(Example: For the 2009-2010 School Year, the Campaign will start on September 1, 2009 and end December 1, 2009. The decisions will be made between December 1, 2009 and December 15, 2009 and copies of the winning applications will be mailed to the Scholarship Chairperson by December 31, 2009. The checks will be mailed out by the last week of January, 2010).

At the present time the list of the Scholarship Committee is as follows:

Eastern Division – Ellen Svengalis
Central Division – Carolyn Spargo
Western Division – Alana Mapes

The above named people will have a supply of the Scholarship Applications and will receive all filled out applications back to themselves. These Scholarship Committee people may ask other members to help them make the selections. If the Scholarship Committee decides to ask other members for help, the other members will remain un-named.

The Scholarship Applicant

The applicants will be asked to complete the following:

  • Fill out a Scholarship Application
  • Provide a short list of your musical endeavors for the past year
  • Provide a CD or Audiotape of your performances
  • Provide a copy of your present school class schedule

The Selection of the Scholarship Recipients

The following criteria will be followed:

1.                  The Scholarship should be for a Music Major. If there are no Music Majors, then someone with a Music Minor will be considered.

2.                   A new applicant will receive preferential consideration over a re-applying recipient. However, if the Scholarship Committee deems that both candidates are equally qualified, a decision can be made to award both candidates with a Scholarship Award.

Scholarship Applications

The Scholarship Applications will be available on the AUSS website: www.auss.org. Follow the instructions on the website. There will be three Scholarship Applications on the site, one for the Eastern Division, one for the Central Division and one for the Western Division. On the applications will be the name and address that it should be mailed back to.

If the applicant lives in the following states, they should apply to the Eastern Division representative: New York, all New England states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia.

They should apply to the Central Division representative if they live between the above mentioned states and the Rocky Mountatins, including all Mid-West states and Florida.
